One Man's Trash: FW Thrift Pickups

After three months of living in the DMV, that time of the year has finally come- the Fall and Winter seasons. Being a Texas gal, I’m used to the heat. It rarely gets cold enough to pull out real winter gear, meaning I moved here with only a couple of coats and jackets. I like to think I’m stylish so I need plenty of options without breaking the bank. 2nd hand shopping has been a great way for me to do that. I started thrifting back in high school when I was really into the ’90s style. After years of not thrifting, I picked it back up in 2022 to be more sustainable while building my new wardrobe.

I’ve shopped at many different thrift stores, vintage markets, and online resellers like Depop to find the perfect pieces for my wardrobe. Each shopping experience has been very different, and there’s so much I’ve learned about thrifting. I’ll get into 2nd hand shopping more in a new style series I have coming up.

Leather goods were on the top of my Fall/ Winter shopping list, so I was on the HUNT. I got one leather jacket and 2 fire coats that cost me less than $30 each. Being able to get not 1 but 3 different jackets in the SAME store? Just know I hit the jackpot. Might I add they are all 100% genuine leather, not the crap they try to sell to us these days. That’s a steal considering a similar “vegan” or faux leather longline coat will run you at least $100 when the quality doesn’t compare. One man’s trash is truly another WOman’s treasure.

Coming into the season, I knew I needed to purchase a bougie fur coat that would fit well with my current closet. After making rounds in my local Value Village, I was heading to the checkout and BOOM there she was sticking out the rack! A large, obnoxious fur coat that resembled the print of a cheetah! It was love at first sight, so I knew I wasn’t leaving the store without her. To be honest I feel like I need a real mink coat one day, I’m extra so it only makes sense.

I love vintage jewelry and accessories more than anything. There’s a certain uniqueness with the pieces you can find. This FW, I have purchased a beautiful necklace, a prayer hands pendant, and a couple of bracelets. (Not pictured) I think my favorite part about 2nd hand jewelry and thrifting as a whole- you can find classic pieces that have stood the test of time and that speaks for their quality.

Listen me and vintage markets go together REAL BAD, and I have been spending a lot of time at them since I moved. I came across a beautiful sweater at a market in DC and had to have it simply because of the color. Purple has quickly become my favorite color so it was perfect. Am I becoming one of those people? LOL Probably.

Overall, I'm satisfied with my recent pick-ups. I had a couple of things on my list and successfully found them, so to a great thrift season. Cheeeeeers!!
